Global Lyme Alliance (GLA) is pleased to announce that Richard T. Marconi, Ph.D. has been appointed to our world-renowned Scientific Advisory Board (SAB).
Dr. Marconi is a professor of microbiology and immunology in the School of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Well-recognized for his diverse research accomplishments, Dr. Marconi co-developed a
canine Lyme disease vaccine that was licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in January. He is currently focused on developing a human Lyme disease vaccine and new diagnostic tests for the disease. “If not diagnosed and treated early, Lyme disease can potentially be a lethal infection,” he has said. “The best approach to minimizing disease in canines as well as in humans is to block infection in the first place.” Dr. Marconi earned his Ph.D. at the University of Montana and conducted his post-doctoral training at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology and the National Institutes of Health-Rocky Mountain Laboratories. He has served as the President of the Virginia Branch of the American Society for Microbiology, published more than 100 peer reviewed research articles and lectured worldwide. “Dr. Marconi brings an unparalleled expertise in vaccine development and genetic regulatory studies in spirochetal diseases to the SAB,” said
Dr. Harriet Kotsoris, GLA’s Chief Scientific Officer. “We are so fortunate to have him on board.”
